Instruction on how to restore your iPhone 4 to 5.1.1 with preserve baseband

Now that you have everything you need, let's start our real journey! Please note, do this at your own risk!!

  1. You need to put your iPhone into DFU mode so that iTunes will accept your iPhone with custom IPSW
    • Open redsn0w
    • Click on Extras
    • Click on Pwned DFU
    • Turn off your iPhone 4 and then connect it to your computer
    • On redsn0w, immediately click on Next
    • On the phone, immediately hold the power button for 3 second
      • keep holding the power button and at the same time hold the home button for 10 seconds
      • keep holding the home button but release the power button for 10 seconds
    • If successful, your iPhone 4 screen will be completely black (looks like it's dead)
      • If however unsuccessful, you should start over at the step where you connect your phone to the computer.
      • Just for beginners, i recommend you practice couple times on how to enter the DFU mode by nonphysically holding the power or the home button. this is just to get more familiar with the process before actually doing it for real.
  2. Now open iTunes (it may already be opened automatically and it says your iPhone is in recovery mode and need to restore).
    • Click ok
    • Now hold the option key (for Mac users) or Shift key (for Windows users) and click Restore
    • A new Windows will pop up and asks you to locate a firmware to be restored to. this is very important. Please make sure you select the custom firmware 5.1.1 you just created from redsn0w. Redsn0w names it as NO_BB_iPhone3,1_5.1.1_9B206_Restore.ipsw
    • Please refer to the logo above for familiarity. Make sure you select the right one!!!
    • Now just sit and relax!
    • Once completed, iTune will ask you to insert the original sim (AT&T) to activate the phone.
    • Please follow the onscreen on your iPhone to complete the first setup process before you can use your iPhone.
    • Once you reach to the main screen of the phone, please double check to see if you're on 5.1.1 with your preserve baseband by going to the Settings/General/About.
    • That's it, you have done a very risky but doable thing for yourself! You should be proud of yourself!!
